Former Los Angeles Lakers All-Star and ex-New York Knicks coach, Derek Fisher, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the early hours of Sunday, June 4th, after flipping his car over on a Los Angeles highway.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, neither Fisher nor his passenger, girlfriend Gloria Govan, were injured in the one-car crash.

Fisher, 42, was behind the wheel when the car reportedly drifted onto the shoulder of the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, California, before hitting the curb and guardrail, which caused the car to flip over. The overturned vehicle, a 2015 Cadillac, blocked two lanes of northbound traffic on the 101 Freeway.
Following the accident, the California Highway Patrol say they discovered Fisher had been drinking. He was then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol without incident.
It’s been a rough couple of years for Fisher. After playing for nearly 20 years in the NBA—13 of which were spent with the Lakers—he retired in 2014. While he was with the Lakers, Fisher won five NBA championships, and is the all-time NBA record holder in playoff games played. He was also the president of the National Basketball Players Association from 2006-2013.
After retirement, he joined the Knicks as head coach, but was fired mid-season in 2016 after the team lost 9 of 10 games. Following his firing, he began work as a TV analyst, and has appeared on TNT's Inside the NBA and on NBA TV, before joining Spectrum SportsNet as an in-studio analyst for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Back in 2015, Fisher also made controversial headlines when he got into a physical altercation with former teammate and current Golden State Warriors player Matt Barnes. Barnes had been married to Govan, 32, since 2012, and became angry when he discovered that his soon-to-be ex-wife was dating Fisher, the New York Post reported.
Govan appeared on seasons 1 and 2 of VH1’s Basketball Wives LA. At the time, Fisher declined to comment on the incident, saying, “My state of mind…is personal, and private matters are personal and private.”

Another of Fisher’s former Lakers teammates, Lamar Odom, has also made headlines for substance use-related incidents, including a near-fatal overdose and multiple stays in rehab.
