Introduction and Basic Services

With two locations in Bradford and Vergennes, Vermont, Valley Vista is a CARF-accredited residential treatment facility for adult men and women, as well as adolescents, seeking care for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Valley Vista provides gender-specific programs rooted in 12-step recovery principles. The individualized programming puts a focus on the entire individual—mind, body and spirit, as opposed to just symptom management. In order to offer a full continuum of care, Valley Vista partners with Bradford Psychiatric Associates, an opioid treatment network that has three outpatient care locations.

Facility and Meals

Situated alongside the beautiful Connecticut River Valley, the Bradford location offers a tranquil setting for recovery. The facility provides accommodations for 28 adults and 16 adolescents ages 14 to 18. Every client has a roommate, with two to four individuals per room. The dormitory is equipped with common rooms utilized for group sessions. The building lies on a campus with plenty of amenities including a basketball court, volleyball court and soccer field. There is not a gym on site but the campus does offera a fully equipped weight room.

Healthy, balanced meals are served in a cafeteria by the facility’s culinary staff. Food preferences and dietary restrictions can be accommodated, and a full salad bar is available during lunch and dinner.

Treatment Protocol and Team

As previously mentioned, Valley Vista provides treatment for adult men and women, as well as adolescents. With an emphasis on comfort and privacy, the genders are separated throughout treatment, and the adolescent program is segregated aside from coed daily programming. On-site detox can be administered as necessary and typically takes between five and seven days. While in the residential treatment phase, clients attend a weekly individual session, a daily 12-step meeting and a daily group therapy. They also learn relapse prevention techniques. Medication management can be facilitated and incorporated into the daily schedule when necessary.

The lengths of stay in residential treatment vary depending on the specific needs of the client, with men and women typically staying between 24 and 26 days. Adolescents typically stay between 45 and 60 days. Of course, clients in any division can stay longer depending on their clinical needs.

At Valley Vista, adult clients receive support from case managers trained in CBT, in addition to participating in mindfulness practice and attending mental health education classes. The adolescent program provides age and gender-specific group education, anger management and psychological education classes. The facility focuses on maintaining regular schooling for adolescents and in particular the smooth transition back into regular life. For adult clients, Valley Vista helps with aftercare planning by making referals to peer support groups, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) facilities and sober livings.

As large as Valley Vista is, it has an equally diverse and experienced staff. The team is comprised of therapists, addiction counselors, a consulting psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a nursing staff that is available around-the-clock. There are over 90 recovery specialists including clinical, medical and psychiatric, that facilitate all treatment. In addition, there is an educational wing with certified teachers for the adolescent division.

Bonus Amenities

Clients in any division enjoy the holistic approaches to recovery including yoga, meditation and sessions with on-site therapy dogs. Adult female clients have the option to attend “Boot Camp” and art therapy. In addition, recreational time is scheduled into the day so that clients can either socialize, relax or exercise on campus. Wash and fold laundry services are available twice a week.

Summary

Valley Vista is an upscale treatment facility with a very experienced staff specializing in 12-step methodology. It offers gender and age-specific care and is equipped to provide dual diagnosis support. The individualized program with the focus on quality aftercare make Valley Vista s a good option for any individual seeking treatment and a solid foundation in sobriety.
