Introduction and Basic Services

For over 30 years Valle Vista Health System of Greenwood, Indiana, has provided comprehensive chemical dependency and dual diagnosis treatment for adults and adolescents in the Indianapolis area. The full continuum of care provided at Valle Vista includes medical detox, inpatient programs for both adults and adolescents and outpatient services that include Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).

Facility and Meals

Valle Vista’s residential facility can accommodate over 100 clients in double-occupancy bedrooms with bathrooms. The modern one story brick building, though a medical facility, is comfortable and spacious. The clients are all paired with the same gender and further divided according to the client’s age and program. There are several common areas within the facility that are utilized for downtime with TVs. The large campus also features a pool and fitness area.

There is a cafeteria on-site where clients eat all of their meals. There are usually two or three meal choices and lunch and dinner offer a salad bar option.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Each incoming client has an assessment to determine their level of need, out of which an individualized treatment plan is devised. The adult residential treatment track stabilizes their clients and aims for treatment to follow a step down program. There are several group and individual therapy sessions per week and medication management for co-occurring disorder clients. The adolescent inpatient is fairly similar to the adults, as some treatments like recreational therapy are included in both. However, the teen track also incorporates art therapy and other age appropriate treatment methods. Girls and boys in treatment also stick to their schooling while participating in daily therapeutic educational activities so they don’t fall behind.

There are a variety of treatment options offered at Valle Vista. CBT and DBT approaches are incorporated and there are also AA meetings on campus. Additionally therapy dogs aid in the programming for all ages. For the most part there are equal parts of therapy and education within every program. Relapse prevention and coping skills are covered. Once a client is ready to step down to the outpatient track, the PHP is six hours a day, five days a week of programming, while the IOP meets three days a week for three hours. There are also counseling for family and couples and regular visits with a staff psychiatrist.

These programs are overseen by a medical director who is a physician and operated by psychologists, CADCs, LMCWs and MFTs.

Summary

Valle Vista offers every level of care; from acute detox to outpatient services, all of which take each person’s specific needs and goals in mind. This facility offers very structured programming that shows results and moves clients through treatment with the intention that clients return to their lives and communities with a healthy mindset and a new sense of accomplishment in recovery. One downside may be that this facility appears to be very busy, so those wishing to receive an assessment should be prepared to join the waiting list.
