Transitioning to Life in Recovery

Moving beyond treatment requires support, which is where Partial Hospitalization Programs come in.

Individuals struggling with mental health or substance use disorders can face many obstacles when trying to reestablish healthy, fulfilling lives. Mental health treatment programs are often beneficial as a first step on the road to recovery. After a patient has been stabilized in an acute care facility following a psychiatric emergency, extended mental health treatment can better enable them to build solid foundations to manage their diagnosis. Banyan Mental Health Programs help patients navigate this journey.

Banyan Treatment Center opened a Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Mental Health Program located in Pompano Beach, Florida in April 2018, following the opening of their Residential Program in Boca Raton. The Partial Hospitalization Program offers a step down level of care, in a less restrictive environment than a residential setting.

“Our goal is for the patient to adapt to a healthy lifestyle where they can be self-sustaining in the best way possible and for them to achieve the highest quality of life,” said Rob Cole, clinical director of Mental Health Services at Banyan Treatment Center. “Longer term care generates better outcomes” when it comes to treating mood and thought disorders, he added.

For many people with mental health diagnoses, reestablishing daily routines can be a challenge. Activities that patients often need guidance on include things such as food shopping, cooking, hygiene and grooming and financial or legal hardships, among others. It is at the PHP level of care that patients receive this help, and become acclimated back to everyday life.

“While patients begin the process of individualized, focused therapy when they are in a residential setting, continued care is often necessary to fully prepare the patient to reintegrate back into everyday life,” said Anne Martin of Banyan Treatment Center. “Our Partial Hospitalization Program is the perfect step in between.”

“We have trained mental health recovery support specialists who are there to help patients as they learn these skills and build a strong foundation to transition back to their daily lives,” Martin said.

Patients live in community housing, and attend the PHP program for about 8 hours a day, with the option of additional activities in the evenings.

The program also works with outside organizations to help connect patients with job opportunities and community programming. Prior to discharge, clinicians and case managers work with patients to develop aftercare plans, which can include making safe housing arrangements and continued care with a provider who specializes in their individual diagnosis.

Banyan Treatment Center provides growth through recovery in locations in throughout the country. Find more information here, connect with the center on Facebook or call for help at 888-241-1663.
