Introduction and Basic Services

Satori Waters is a treatment network with three locations in southern Florida. It utilizes both evidence-based practices and the 12-step philosophy with programming for adult men and women. Satori has detox, residential and outpatient offerings, all implementing individualized care on a step-down, phase system. Satori Waters was established in 2013 and is run by two psychologists who themselves are in recovery.

Facility and Meals

Satori Waters offers a residential program that’s referred to as “Florida style”, meaning that instead of clients living together in one housing unit, they reside in beachside apartments and attend treatment at an off-site location. There about 50 residents, 25 in each gender-specific location. The two-bedroom, fully furnished apartments come complete with all the amenities necessary for comfortable living.

Each resident receives a grocery card every week and takes care of picking up and preparing his or her own food for breakfast and dinners. There is a catered lunch provided at the treatment facility every day. In addition, clients have access to a staff nutritionist who offers meal planning and nutritional guidance.

Treatment Protocol and Team

The first phase of treatment at Satori is usually 45 days, with the first week or so considered a “blackout” period, meaning clients don’t have access to computers or phones so as to acclimate to their new schedules. During this first step, clients participate in daily treatment that consists of several group sessions at the facility from morning to late afternoon. At the end of the day, they attend off site AA/NA meetings within the community with transportation provided by staff.

There are a variety of treatment approaches employed including CBT, DBT, Stages of Change, EMDR and specialized trauma-informed care. There are also holistic methods like art therapy, hypnosis and twice monthly equine therapy. For clients with co-occurring disorders, Satori offers genetic testing for medication management in order to determine what type of medication would best suit each person based on his or her own unique biology. Additionally, clients can expect gender-specific groups sessions, relapse prevention techinques, psychoeducation and interactive journaling activities. After the clients complete their first phase they can step down to the IOP track, which lasts up to eight weeks, then to the final phase of the alumni group, meeting just once a week.

The staff of Satori Waters consists of Master’s-level clinicians whose credentials include LCSW and LMFT, as well as various medical professionals and psychologists.

There is a three-day family program for loved ones of clients where they attend therapy and group workshops.

Bonus Amenities

The apartment buildings feature pools, fitness rooms, tennis courts and patios with dining tables. Clients are able to exercise frequently and are provided with a gym membership upon admission and participate in bi-weekly instructor-led yoga.

There are also frequent outings to the beach, or excursions around South Florida to go golfing or check out a local sports team.

Summary

The personalized treatment programs at Satori Waters set out achievable goals for each client, along with the belief and assistance from supportive and experienced staff. Individuals can also begin recovery in a beautiful beach community, with a solid alumni network available for support upon program completion.
