Introduction and Basic Services

The Sanctuary at Sedona is an addiction treatment facility an hour north of Phoenix in Cornville, Arizona. It opened in July of 2006 by Dean Taraborelli, who, after spending 30 years of his life in and out of rehabilitation programs, believes that the “whole person” must be treated in order to truly heal at the core cellular level. To this end, Taraborelli started The Sanctuary at Sedona to move beyond the limitations of traditional 12-step programs, and focuses on the root causes of addiction.

Facility and Meals

The Sanctuary is located 30 minutes from Sedona, with a gorgeous landscape of desert red rocks. Consistent with Dean Taraborelli’s beliefs, The Sanctuary fosters an environment of solitude and reflection. The facility offers a private, individualized experience, with a maximum of seven residents staying at a time. Rooms are either private or semi-private with adjacent bathrooms and each adorned with a Mandala for serenity. Clients sleep in queen beds with 400-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and pillow top mattresses.

The on-site chef plans meals based on client’s preferences, often using food grown on the grounds. Upon admission clients are provided with toiletries free of harmful chemicals, and are allowed to bring their own cell phone and personal computers.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Rather than following a typical disease model and managing client’s symptoms, The Sanctuary addresses the root causes behind addiction. Treatment typically lasts between 30 and 90 days, with clients asked to commit at least a month. CBT and DBT are used but the facility’s programming also integrates individual and group therapy with alternative methods such as guided meditation, nutritional counseling and yoga classes. For clients with co-occurring disorders, The Sanctuary can transport them to a nearby mental health facility for medication management and additional dual diagnosis support.

The Sanctuary’s staff is comprised of LMFTs, nurses, a consulting psychiatrist and psychologists. In addition, the facility is connected with therapists, medical professionals and acclaimed healers.

Family visits can be scheduled while clients are at the facility, and if family members wish to participate clients can also utilize family therapy. With their therapist, clients also create their personal discharge plan

Bonus Amenities

Residents of The Sanctuary enjoy the many transformative spots on the grounds, such as the biodynamic garden, therapeutic herbal baths, an infrared sauna and a spiritual meditation room. Native American-influenced tools such as the Medicine Wheel, a fire ceremony area and a stone are used for teaching and healing.

Summary

The Sanctuary at Sedona is a truly holistic addiction program that is unique in both its atmosphere and its approach to treatment. The facility’s integrated programming is the result of over 10 years of providing care for hundreds of clients. For men and women seeking a luxury alternative to traditional 12-step residential facilities, The Sanctuary at Sedona is certainly worth exploring.
