Introduction and Basic Services

The Newton, Kansas based facility, Prairie View, provides substance abuse and mental health treatment for adolescents and adults. The services include 12-step based care within both inpatient and outpatient programs, and holistic approaches that are all individualized and comprehensive. It’s certianly one of the best treatment options in the state in terms of comfort, privacy and the variety of therapeutic modalities.

Facility and Meals

The inpatient clients have private rooms in the 14-bed facility, which is on a sprawling campus of over 80 acres of prairie land. The accommodations are tidy and cozy despite being a somewhat clinical setting, and common areas include a game room and fitness area. There is also a living room space that has couches and a TV. Laundry facilities are on site and clients have access to them between treatment sessions.

There is a cafeteria on campus that offers several different meal options daily, as well as plenty of coffee and tea available at all times.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Prairie View welcomes clients with open arms regardless of where they are with their addiction or co-occurring disorder. During the intake, a treatment plan is devised and if certain services aren’t available through Prairie View, such as detox, it is able to refer the individual to a facility that can accommodate those needs and begin treatment when the client is ready.

Because the programming is individualized, there is no set amount of time for treatment, though usually the stays are between 30 and 60 days. Treatment devised is on a step-down basis, so for those who complete the inpatient phase, therapists generally recommend continuing on in the outpatient track, which is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).

Day to day at Prairie View is highly structured and supportive. There are several group and individual sessions as well as on-site AA meetings. Relapse prevention, stress management, and improving family relations are all part of the therapeutic focus. Though Prairie View is faith-based, no particular religion is forced onto the clients, and non-denominational elements are available. Holistic therapeutic approaches can experiential options such as art, music and expressive therapy. There are also opioid specific treatment tracks in addition to medication management for dual diagnosis clientele. Family involvement and support is emphasized, and Prairie View offers both family and couples counseling services.

The large and experienced staff of Prairie View include LCSWs, LPCs, LCADCs, LCPCs, medical doctors and RNs.

Bonus Amenities

One of the key factors to success at Prairie View is restoring clients’ confidence in themselves. To foster this, the organization has an adventure course on the campus and a labyrinth walk. Additionally, residents regularly enjoy an on-site gym, cooking and art classes and instructor-guided yoga classes.

Summary

Prairie View is packed with treatment options, understanding staff and guidance for their clients and family. There are a variety of programming extras in addition to the thorough treatment plans, making this facility a good choice for those who are in need of support and a solid foundation for ridding themselves of an addiction. As far as options for treatment in the state of Kansas go, this facility is a cut above the rest.
