The Basics

Founded in 2014, Orlando Recovery Center is a substance abuse treatment facility set in Orlando, Florida. The organization offers detox, residential and outpatient care to adult men and women in central Florida. It’s a part of the larger network, Recovery Village, which has multiple locations across the country.

Facility and Meals

The ultra-modern facility has separate spaces for both men and women. The building has a mixture of shared and private rooms. Shared rooms have twin beds, new bedding, a large dresser and shaded lamps for reading. The shared bedrooms also have adjoining bathrooms.

Private rooms are available but are not covered by the insurance. Both inpatient and detox clients who need private rooms are required to pay an additional $5,000.

The treatment and housing are done in one building with the therapy rooms in one wing of the building while the sleeping quarters take the other wing.

The organization also has a swimming pool with sunbathing loungers on the side. There is also a fully equipped gym in the facility with a basketball and volleyball court available outdoors.

Meals are prepared and served by an on-site professional chef. The chef focuses on serving healthy meals and uses a mix of organic and non-organic foods. ORC can also accommodate clients with specific dietary needs or restrictions by preparing a special meal for them.

Treatment Protocol and Team

ORC offers a full medical detox program that runs for seven to 10 days for alcohol detox, and often longer for other substances. The medical director oversees the detox program.

The residential program can run from 30 to 90 days, but traditionally clients stay for 45 days at a time. Treatment at Orlando Recovery Center is highly individualized and counselors design a treatment plan that meets the unique needs of each specific client.

All plans do include therapy that consists of both group and individual sessions, with clients attending at least three individual meetings a week.

Counselors use evidence-based therapy techniques such as CBT and as well as psychoeducation, relapse prevention and life skills training. Clients are also put into support groups formed for mutual support and motivation.

Orlando Recovery Center offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for clients stepping down from the residential program. It is meant to keep clients under close supervision and monitoring while they adjust towards less restrictive treatment in the outpatient.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets three nights a week for three hours at a time. Although the length is dependent on the needs of the client, most individuals commit to at least a month of treatment. The IOP consists of both individual and group therapy and counselors also introduce the 12 steps principles in this program. Clients have the option of residing in the sober living housing during the IOP. If clients relapse during the IOP, they can be immediately admitted to the detox program and then return to the IOP when they are stable.

Orlando Recovery offers an aftercare program, which also consists of both group and individual therapy and focuses on practicing coping strategies, relapse prevention, continued therapy, helping clients pursue educational goals as well as develop sober activities and relationships. The sessions can also involve family members.

The organization is 12-step oriented and counselors regularly work the 12 steps into group therapy. Clients in the residential and outpatient programs attend outside AA and NA meetings regularly, and sometimes daily when the clients initially begin treatment.

The facility is dual diagnosis and offers a co-occurring disorders treatment program for clients with both mental health as well as substance abuse issues. ORC also offers medication management for clients with prescribed medication needs.

Orlando Recovery Center has five senior members of staff and other support staff who come in as needed. The senior staff consists of LADCs, medical doctors and clinicians holding various qualifications in physical and mental health. The medical director is certified in pain medication, addiction medicine and anesthesiology.

Bonus Amenities

Bonus amenities offered at Orlando Recovery Center include yoga, massages and meditation. The clients can also enjoy swimming and exercising in the center’s gym. Equine therapy, pet therapy, and art and music therapy are also incorporated into treatment.

Orlando Recovery Center offers comprehensive substance abuse treatment for adult men and women. The full medical detox provides a high level of care for clients undergoing withdrawal symptoms. The PHP, IOP and aftercare programs allow clients to transition down from treatment at a pace that meets their needs. Also, clients can reap the benefits of integration of 12-step recovery in therapy, a foundation that will serve them beyond program completion when they’re looking for peer support in their own community.
