Introduction and Basic Services
Las Encinas Recovery Center in Pasadena, California, became well known due to the Vh1 reality show, Celebrity Rehab, that starred Dr. Drew Pinsky, who worked there at the time. Aside from its past TV fame, this is a top-notch residential treatment facility that specializes in substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Las Encinas provides detox, inpatient and outpatient programs that employ group and individual therapy utilizing evidence-based methods and the 12-step philosophy.

Facility and Meals
There are three residential buildings situated on the 30 acre campus that contain a total of 22 beds. The Briar Program, the facility that houses residential clients for extended stay, has a home-like atmosphere in a clinical setting. Clients have the choice between double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms en suite, or private bedrooms, for an additional price. There are several common areas throughout the campus and outdoor lounge space that includes a swimming pool. Clients are not permitted to have their cell phone or personal devices while in treatment, but there is a shared phone that is available for personal calls as long as it doesn't interfere with treatment. There is a cafeteria on-site where clients eat all their meals. Snacks and drinks are provided throughout the day.
Treatment Protocol and Team
The detox process at Las Encinas typically takes about seven days before clients move on to the longer term residential program. Every program is individualized to suit each client's specific needs, and a regular day usually consists of up to four group sessions, psychoeducation and recreational therapy. The group topics vary from day to day in order to keep the clients engaged and focused on recovery.
Evidence-based protocols like CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are implemented during treatment. Clients with co-occurring disorders have access to medication management and are regularly assessed by a staff psychiatrist. Clients explore new coping and living skills and learn how to identify triggers, and cover relapse prevention. There are also classes in nutrition, assertiveness, relaxation and health/wellness. Daily 12-step meetings are held on-site in the evenings, and staff assists in connecting clients to their support community and obtaining sponsorship.
Aftercare is offered free of charge for up to a year after graduating the program. This consists of weekly group therapy and alumni events, like BBQs. Family involvement is encouraged though not required.
