The pop star said she left the gala and went straight to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

The Met Gala in 2016 was not an enjoyable experience for Demi Lovato, who tells Billboard that a certain celebrity almost drove her to drink.

Lovato, who has been sober for about six years, did not name the celebrity, but discussed the encounter in the Billboard interview.

“This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around,” she said. “It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”

Though Lovato did not name the celebrity who made the night so “terrible,” a photo she posted on Instagram around the time of the gala hints that the person in question may have been Nicki Minaj.

According to the Huffington Post, Lovato and Minaj both attended the event as guests of designer Jeremy Scott.

“This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met,” Lovato captioned the photo. She added the hashtags #sofuckingawkward, #notforme and #whatsgood. The last hashtag was thought to be a jab at Minaj, who called out Miley Cyrus with that phrase at the 2015 VMA Awards.

“I’m obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life,” Lovato continued in the caption.

Minaj also posted a photo taken that night, but mentioned everyone pictured except Lovato.

Lovato tells Billboard she left the Met Gala and went directly to a 10 p.m. Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on―millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” she told Billboard. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala―fake and sucking the fashion industry’s dick.”

Lovato has struggled with numerous obstacles over the years. In 2011, after she checked into rehab, the singer revealed that she had sought help for self-harm and eating disorders, and had been diagnosed as bipolar

Lovato opened up about her sobriety and recovery in her YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated, in which she preaches the importance of being open and honest.

"I actually had anxiety around this interview,” she says in the opening. “I don't know what everyone is going to think. One thing I'll never stop doing is being honest, and that's the best I can do."
