Introduction and Basic Services

Dallas Behavioral Healhcare Hospital is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients with substance use disorders as well as those in need of dual diagnosis support. Dallas Behavioral is part of the Joint Commission-Accredited Aurora Behavioral Healthcare network, which has multiple locations in California, Illinois, Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Each facility provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes residential treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and plenty of aftercare support. Dallas Behavioral treats adult and adolescent clients.

Facility and Meals

The modern, recently renovated facility is situated within a medical district in southern Dallas. It’s a hospital environment with a good deal of large windows allowing an abundance of natural light. With gardens, plenty of trees, patio tables and a fountain, the attractive landscaping creates a tranquil atmosphere on campus. There is also a large indoor pool in the building.

Residents stay in double-occupancy dorm-style rooms equipped with two full-sized beds, bookcases and an adjacent semi-private bathroom. Clients remain in specific wings determined by their specific type of treatment. Residents are not allowed to bring electronic devices, jewelry or any metal objects including underwire bras. Purses and wallets are not permitted and residents are only allowed the basic toiletries provided by the facility. In addition, no stuffed animals, blankets, pillows or clothing with offensive messages are allowed.

Residents eat all meals in the facility’s cafeteria. Clients are not allowed outside food but can have small amounts of cash for use in the vending machines. Snacks are available and most dietary restrictions are accommodated.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Dallas Behavioral provides a full continuum of care that utilizes a vast array of therapy methods including evidence-based and holistic. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a thorough assessment with a licensed mental health professional. This process helps create the most effective treatment for the client. The length of stay varies depending on the specific needs of the client, and is largely determined by the treatment staff, including a consulting psychiatrist.

Dallas Behavioral offers an individualized treatment program for both adolescent and adult clients. Individual and group therapy are key components in the treatment for adult clients. While the treatment program is individualized, all sessions are facilitated using evidence-based methods like CBT and DBT. Then principles of 12-step recovery are also incorporated. Residents participate in solution-focused as well as Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). In addition, family therapy is facilitated and encouraged.

Aftercare is a major component to the sustained success of long-term recovery. The client’s treatment team and case manager begin aftercare planning during admission. The facility has IOP and PHP programs that include group sessions focused on wellness education like positive thinking, interpersonal communication, self-esteem and relapse prevention. In addition to outpatient, a continued support plan is developed that includes follow-up’s and support group information.

The Dallas Behavioral Healthcare Hospital team is comprised of therapists, a nursing staff, psychiatrists, physicians, adolescent specialists and case managers. For clients with co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis support and medication management are provided.

Bonus Amenities

A vast array of holistic therapies and psychoeducation classes are offered by Dallas Behavioral, including mindfulness, positive thinking, education, conflict resolution, art therapy, music therapy and goal-setting.
