Home of every vice under the sun, Las Vegas might not be the best place to celebrate sobriety.

Sobriety is not a term one often associates with Las Vegas, a city known for gambling, partying, and celebrating all forms of vice.

But that’s not stopping Cocaine Anonymous World Service from holding its 31st annual convention in Sin City. The organization reportedly wants to send a message about the effectiveness of 12-step programs by hosting hundreds of recovering cocaine addicts at Harrah’s casino and hotel, located right in the heart of Las Vegas, later this month.

"That’s right, a proud fellowship of recovering drug addicts will soon converge on the most sinful of all cities May 21-25,” said a press release for the event.

Though the location of the event could be seen as tempting relapse, Cocaine Anonymous (CA) says the idea is to raise awareness about addiction and showcase the power of recovery.

"We believe that many people outside of Cocaine Anonymous are very concerned about the serious problem of drug addiction,” the release continues. "We hope that you will find this an excellent opportunity to find out how a large (and growing) number of people have learned to help each other to recover from drug addiction, and to live a more spiritual, happy and fulfilling life 'one day at a time.' "

The event is also meant to show that sobriety does not have to be dull. When not attending meetings and support groups relating to sobriety, participants in the conference will partake in a range of activities from golf to hiking to a tour of the Hoover Dam. “We absolutely insist on enjoying life,” reads CA’s website.
