Introduction and Basic Services

On 48 secluded acres nestled deep in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee sits Brookhaven Retreat. With Knoxville and Nashville nearby, residents are not far from the hustle and bustle of a major city, but live within the serene quiet of a mountain retreat. Founder Jacqueline Dawes began her career developing assisted living facilities until she lost her daughter and husband to substance abuse and used their memory to open Brookhaven Retreat. Pouring her newfound passion into holistic treatments, Ms. Dawes and her staff focus on depression, bipolar disorder, addiction and emotional trauma in a treatment setting designed exclusively for women. Since opening, Brookhaven Retreat has helped women from all over the world take back their inner power and reclaim their lives.

Facility and Meals

The state of the art recovery space used to be an old smokehouse on the family farm that has been developed into a top of the line facility for residents. Both treatment and housing occur on the same property. The rooms are open air and cozy at the same time, with the charm of a farmhouse felt at every turn. Lounges, gazebos and balconies all give way to views of the magnificent Smoky Mountains in the distance. For miles in every direction all clients see are trees. In the fall, the foliage changes into an autumn rainbow of reds, oranges, yellows and browns. Meals are service cafeteria style and encourage a sense of community among the women staying at Brookhaven Retreat.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Several types of programming are offered, with the primary track being the Lily Program. The Lily Program is a signature 90 days of various experiential therapies, including equine therapy, art therapy, exposure therapy, family therapy and gardening. Clients can expect both individual and small core group sessions.

The Poncho Life is a 30 or 60-day life realignment that runs in conjunction with the Lily Program. A low elements ropes course is also on site, to help teach clients how to become more present, learn problem-solving techniques and improve communication skills.

A team of registered nurses works closely with physicians to provide continuous care and medication monitoring. Brookhaven Retreat is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations, which is considered the nationally recognized Gold Seal of Approval in Health Care.

Bonus Amenities

Every acre of Brookhaven Retreat is put to use—walking the grounds yields badminton, yoga, volleyball and nightly campfires, drum circles, Zumba and hiking. Residents are also encouraged to participate in group outings to art galleries, visits to the zoo and exploring the nearby Smoky Mountains.

Summary

As a female-only facility, Brookhaven Retreat focuses deeply on unlocking each resident’s potential from the inside out. Clients learn to redefine themselves in the foothills of one of the country’s most beautiful mountain ranges. Female empowerment and knowledge reverberate through every canyon and peak seen from the windows of Brookhaven Retreat.
