Introduction and Basic Services

Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center is an adult substance abuse treatment facility about an hour north of Atlanta, Georgia. Blue Ridge offers detox, residential, aftercare and family programming for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment incorporates a spiritual element through the 12 steps along with an emphasis on psychoeducation and gender-specific, individualized treatment plans.

Facility and Meals

Clients reside on a 50 acre campus hidden by a heavily wooded area near a fishing pond. The beautiful farm-style home has a wrap-around porch with rocking chairs that overlooks the creek out front. The gender-specific bedrooms are double or triple occupancy and furnished with full beds, dressers and nightstands and the living room has a mounted flat screen TV above the stone fireplace. If the walking trails that surround the property aren’t of interest, there are plenty of activities on the grounds that will, including the ping pong table on the back porch and the firepit. Though cell phones and computers aren’t allowed in treatment there is a house phone where clients can call loved ones during set hours twice a day.

Clients enjoy the homestyle cooking in the old fashioned dining room three times a day. Those with food allergies or specific dietary needs can be accommodated. The cuisine is filling and hearty, but also includes some lighter fare like fresh vegetables and fruits.

Treatment Protocol and Team

There is a nurse on hand 24 hours a day to assist in the detox process. On average, this stage takes up to seven days, and during this time clients are offered Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to help ease any discomfort. Detox clients usually receive some counseling as well if they are physically up for it.

Residential treatment at Blue Ridge is typically a 35 to 45 day stay. During the intake process, clients put together goals and a treatment plan and work closely with the staff to achieve those goals. Mornings begin with a meditation followed by four hours of group therapy sessions, and after lunch there are smaller groups and some experiential therapy. Programming is based on the 12-step philosophy and there are on-site AA and NA groups every evening. Individual therapy is available a couple of times a week.

Therapeutic approaches include CBT and DBT in addition to holistic measures like art and music therapy. There is an emphasis on relapse prevention and anger management within the group setting, and gender specific issues are addressed in men’s and women’s groups.

There is a two day family program on campus once a month. Loved ones have counseling and educational lectures and have the opportunity to become familiar with the support community of Al Anon.

The staff includes a medical director, psychiatrist, LPNs, LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs and CADCs.

Bonus Amenities

The grounds contain a full basketball court, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pit. There is also a staff personal trainer who works with the clients during treatment.

Summary

Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center is a solid 12-step based treatment facility offering proven treatment approaches. The serene atmosphere and simplicity of the treatment aims to take clients back to an easier time in their lives and allow them to reacquaint themselves with a life free of addiction. This is a great choice for those seeking a rustic recovery getaway in the Atlanta area.
