On Tuesday afternoon, Hollywood powerhouse Ben Affleck took to Facebook to reveal that he recently completed a stint in rehab for alcohol addiction.

"I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be," Affleck said in the statement.

Affleck, whose father was an alcoholic, has been open about growing up with a parent struggling with the disease. In 2012, he told The Hollywood Reporter, "[My father's] life sort of hit the skids when I was in my teens. It was difficult. When one's parent is an alcoholic, it's hard. It was a little scary and trying, but then he got sober when I was twentysomething, and he's been sober ever since."

In 2015, TMZ reported that the Academy Award-winning actor/director's gambling and alcoholism had pushed his wife, Alias actress Jennifer Garner, to her breaking point. In June 2015, the couple, who were married for 10 years, announced their plans to divorce.

In a statement to E! News, the couple said, "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."

But last week, it was reported that reconciliation was a strong possibility for the separated Hollywood power couple. Sources close to Affleck and Garner told People that the actress has called off the divorce and is reportedly trying to make it work with the 44-year-old actor.

Affleck acknowledged his love for Garner and their three children in his Facebook statement.

"I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery," the actor wrote.

This is not Affleck's first time in rehab. Back in 2001, Charlie Sheen drove him to Promises in Malibu where he would do a 30-day stint for alcohol addiction. He later talked about it with the Hollywood Reporter, saying, "I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be. It was more a 'let me get myself straight,' before it became a rite of passage."
