Ann Coulter Says Pot Is Ruining The Country

During Politicon, the controversial pundit made a series of inflammatory statements regarding race and marijuana.

In yet another baffling rant, conservative firebrand Ann Coulter claimed during a Politicon panel that marijuana is ruining the country and causing mental disabilities. She went on to draw perplexing connections between the apparent demon weed and immigrant busboys.

The bizarre exchange with Young Turks correspondent and marijuana supporter Ana Kasparian took a rough turn during a discussion about racial disparities. Kasparian made mention of data showing that whites and blacks use pot at about the same rate, yet blacks are disproportionately targeted with arrests and jail time.

Coulter fired back with an inflammatory assertion that black people lie more – though she couldn’t name the study she cited to back her up.

“This is based on self-reports,” she said. “There have been further studies where they actually drug test the person after asking ‘Do you smoke pot, or have you smoked pot in the last week?’ and it turns out there’s a racial difference in telling the truth on ‘Did you smoke pot’? Blacks were about 10 times more likely to lie and say they hadn’t smoked pot,” she continued, to some scattered applause and a bit of jeering.

But she didn’t stop there.

“Nobody goes to prison for possession of pot,” she claimed, setting off a wave of boos and vehement disagreement. “No, I know you’re all potheads, and you’re gonna have trouble following what I’m about to say, but as you’ll be able to read in your failing New York Times almost 90% of people in prison are in prison as a result of a plea bargain. No one gets arrested and tried for possession of marijuana.

“But if they happen to have marijuana on them that’s what they plea it down. You don’t need witnesses, you don’t need a trial. So it may be on the record, but you’re not going to prison for that, you’re going to prison because you held up a liquor store with a sawed-off shotgun, and they found pot on you,” she said.

Although plea bargains do account for a large percentage of convictions, an ACLU analysis found that roughly 88% of the 8.2 million pot arrests between 2001 and 2010 were for marijuana alone. The study also found that black people are 3.73 times more likely than white people to be arrested for weed.

Nevertheless, Coulter continued on with some offensively-worded, weed-bashing when asked if pot should be legalized.

“No. You can legalize all the drugs you want once there isn’t a welfare state, but no,” she said.

“Marijuana makes people retarded, especially when they’re young. We’ve got enough busboys. We’re bringing in busboys by the million through our immigration policy. We do not need a country of busboys. We’re destroying the country.”

It is unclear exactly why busboys are so key to the pot biz, but in her response, Kasparian offered some sage advice for the pot-hating pundit: “I wish you would smoke a joint.”
