Introduction and Basic Services

Situated on Singer Island, Florida—just north of West Palm Beach on its own part of the archipelago—Ambrosia Treatment Center’s Singer Island facility provides an exquisitely private location for adult residential treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. It is a part of the Ambrosia Treatment Center network, which was founded in 2007 by RN Jerry Haffey and runs five rehabs across the country.

Facility and Meals

With its stunning island location, Ambrosia Singer Island is set right on white-sanded beaches and has a pier leading out onto a view of the crystal blue waters. The bright yellow multi-building resort-like facilities are apartment-style with immaculate landscaping and a grey brick path leading onto a patio and gated pool. Lounge chairs and a seating area are located directly off to the side so those who are not swimming can still get plenty of Floridian sun. There is no on-site gym but clients can be signed up to go off-site twice a week.

Accommodations are separated into apartments. Lounge areas are included in each individual unit, and though they may vary stylistically they generally come appointed with brown leather couches and flat screen TVs. Dining areas have marble tabletops and room enough to fit the occupants of the apartment at one time for a communal meal. Sizable windows in the lounges overlook the campus grounds.

Kitchens are modern, occasionally coming with a pass-through wall space. Granite countertops and modern appliances provide plenty of space for clients to make snacks throughout the day. Catered meals are provided three times a day, with residents coming to a consensus on where they would like to order from. A typical day might include pizza for lunch and Chili’s or Applebee’s for dinner. Those who have special dietary preferences or prefer healthier options are taken to the grocery store once a week and then make their own meals daily.

There are two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms in each apartment. Bathrooms have marble-tiled showers with bars and shelves for safety and convenience. Countertops are granite and sit below a large, antique-style mirror. Bedrooms may be made private for an additional cost and based on need and availability.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Detox begins after a health and dual diagnosis assessment. It typically lasts three to 10 days, depending on the circumstances, and has 24/7 monitoring along with medication dispensation.

Clinicians include a CAC/LCADC, a Master’s-level therapist, LPCs and RNs working around-the-clock.

Treatment lasts 30 days, and 70% of residents at the facility have alcohol-related substance abuse issues. Typically, residents at this campus are 35 and older. Clients are given a weekly meeting with a psychiatrist and medical doctor each as well as two weekly chiropractic sessions. In addition to medical care, holistic treatments are also available including a bi-weekly ropes course, massage and acupuncture three times a week, weekly on-site yoga and off-site fitness sessions twice a week.

Marriage and family counseling occurs a minimum of once a week, in addition to three weekly small group meetings that are therapist-led and discourage isolation. Educational lectures take place 10 times a week, covering the physical damage resulting from drug use and preventing relapse. Art and music therapy take place once every other week each, providing residents with an alternative outlet for self-expression and ways to build relationships with their fellow clients.

Aftercare is integrated into treatment through classes on the stages of relapse as well as introductions to the 12 steps via weekly meetings. Bi-weekly lectures are also held at the facility. In addition to support groups and lectures, aftercare coordinators may help alumni organize alternative plans such as sober living or outpatient programs. Around-the-clock telecommunications support is available in addition to e-sessions with licensed therapists. Newsletters are sent out with personalized selections of educational articles.

Bonus Amenities

Available at Ambrosia Singer Island are acupuncture, massage, meditation, yoga, art and music therapies, chiropractic care, fitness sessions and ropes courses. Clients take trips to the surrounding beaches once a week.
