Introduction and Basic Services

A short 45-minute drive from Philadelphia, Ambrosia New Jersey is a substance abuse and dual diagnosis treatment facility located in Pike Medford, New Jersey. It is part of the Ambrosia Treatment Center network, an organization founded in 2007 by registered nurse and substance recovery specialist Jerry Haffey. The Ambrosia Treatment Center runs five co-ed rehabs across the country.

Facility and Meals

The secluded campus is set on 44 acres of grassy, tree-lined meadows. The facility itself is composed of multiple brick buildings with sizable layouts. The grounds boast a basketball and tennis court, as well as areas for running. Clients are taken to an off-site gym seven days a week.

The residential facility has a 44-client capacity; residents stay in shared bedrooms that have private bathrooms. The remodeled home includes a modern kitchen and dining room, a game room and communal spaces outfitted with couches and a large TV. Two chefs prepare meals for clients, taking nutrition and wellness into account. Snacks are also available.

Treatment Protocol and Team

Following a health and co-occurring disorder assessment, if necessary there is a three to 10-day detox process. Detox is monitored around-the-clock by RNs, and clients are given medication on an as-needed basis. Attention is also given to keeping clients hydrated and well-nourished in order to help stabilize the body.

Residential treatment at Ambrosia New Jersey typically lasts 30 days. An individualized treatment plan is created to ensure that every resident receives the attention and care that he or she needs. Dual diagnosis support and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) are available.

Treatment involves a whole-person approach in addition to evidence-based methodologies such as EMDR. A registered nurse is on-call seven days a week and clients receive medical check-ups five days per week. The daily education and counseling schedule includes one small group counseling session, two group educational sessions, a recovery mentorship meeting and a 12-step meeting. In addition to the daily 12-step meetings, residents may also enter into a sponsorship program. Educational groups deal with life skills training, avoiding denial, coping with anxiety and managing stress. Additionally, residents receive one weekly personal therapy session and two family group sessions a week. Grief and trauma therapy are available to those who need them.

Mindfulness meditation takes place daily and there is a weekly “Fellowship in Recovery” session during which clients can experience fun activities with fellow residents. Creative therapies are also available.

Rehab staff includes LSWs, LCADCs and CADCs, MSWs, LCSWs, a spiritual adviser, an on-call RN and Bachelor’s-level therapists. A doctor and psychiatrist are also on-call and come onto the grounds twice a week.

The family program, which includes in-treatment counseling, focuses on support without enabling, encouragement while avoiding triggering, communicating with a defensive loved one and emotional self-support.

Aftercare involves a goal-oriented discharge plan created with the help of aftercare coordinators, and may include referral to sober living or an outpatient program. Relapse prevention is incorporated into residential treatment. There is 24/7 text, call and email support offered to clients who have completed residency as well as e-therapy sessions with licensed counselors. Aftercare coordinators also help clients match with local groups, sponsors and therapists to continue treatment at home. Bi-weekly support groups and lectures are offered after the program, as well as personalized and timely educational article newsletters and monthly events.

Bonus Amenities

Yoga and chiropractic services are available three times a week each.
