Rick Perry Talks Legalizing Marijuana on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Texas lawmakers are "trying to be smart" about pot, claims Perry, who also says he's never smoked marijuana.
Texas Governor Rick Perry appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and talked about Austin, running for office, and decriminalizing marijuana. Though Perry initially garnered a mixed reaction from the audience, sentiments changed when host Jimmy Kimmel asked Perry if he would decriminalize pot in Texas by the end of this year.
"We've kind of done that," Perry said, mentioning that penalties for pot have gone down in recent years. "We're trying to be smart about it. You don't want to ruin a kid's life for having a joint."
Kimmel also inquired whether Perry himself had ever smoked marijuana.
"No, thank God," Perry said. Indicating the backstage area, he continued, "But does second-hand count? Because I think there's still some left in there where Snoop [Dogg] was."
Among other things, Perry also confirmed that he did shoot a coyote while out for a jog, carries a gun with him even to interviews, and that his mother made his underwear for him as a child.
When asked if he was considering running for president again in 2016, Perry didn't give a straight answer.
"This is not the crowd that I want to make this announcement to," Perry replied.
