Teens Reportedly Smoking Coffee to Get High

One local news station says that teenage beanheads all over the states are lighting up caffeine sticks for a hallucinogenic rush.

Teens will smoke pretty much anything, so it should come as no surprise that a local news station has caught wind of teens smoking coffee beans to get buzzed.

The allegedly viral trend - an investigation by Time magazine was unable to find any evidence of smoking coffee on social media - even comes with its own lingo. According to WCCB, the drugs have been dubbed "caffeine sticks" and the users are called "beanheads." While sites like Time and Gawker were quick to point out that smoking caffeine is probably just a manufactured trend to keep parents in a perpetual state of freaking out, there actually may be some truth to the claims.

Of course none of this should come as a surprise. After all, teens have smoked Twix, eaten vodka-infused gummy bears, and inserted vodka-soaked tampons, so smoking coffee isn't much of a stretch. Apparently, the trend has existed for some time; one Reddit user heartily recommended trying it two years ago.

"Finding that the smoke from coffee grounds is pleasantly smooth was definitely a lovely and unexpected treat," Reddit user RhymesWithEloquent wrote. "Speaking of treats, the second wonderful fact of smoking coffee grounds is, you guessed it, the smoke tastes like fucking coffee."

The user also claimed that smoking coffee gave them a huge burst of energy that lasted longer than drinking coffee.

According to WCCB, the trendy drug can cause some side effects that include trouble breathing, dizziness, and hallucinations. The last one has a ring of truth, since drinking too much coffee can cause hallucinations in some people.

The seemingly random old man WCCB interviewed about caffeine sticks put it best: “We’re about to legalize marijuana all over the United States. I think we can live with a few beanheads.”
