Drinking alone is not ideal. But drinking buddies can be so unreliable—whether they're puking in the corner or asking to borrow money for another round. So who better to drink with than a…robot?

It now exists thanks to South Korean inventor Eunchan Park. Tired of drinking alone, he created the aptly named Robot Drinky, who can not only slam back shots with its robot arms but also give a robotic thumbs-up. And its cheeks even glow red after it's pounded back a few—you know, just like a real-life drunk.

"On Christmas in 2012, I drank Soju (Korean alcohol) alone because I had no girlfriend at that time," said Park in a video about his invention which he posted this past weekend. "Drinking alone was definitely terrible! So I couldn't drink anymore." After inventing Robot Drinky, he says the taste of alcohol actually changed: “I could finally find the secret of taste of alcohol totally depends on existence of [a] partner. This is why I made this robot."

In case you’re worried about Drinky getting wasted and trying to get in a robo-car and drive to its robo-home, fear not. The booze flows right through the robot via a tube and into a mason jar. (So you may end up drinking for two.)

The project was backed by Art Center Nabi, an art museum in Seoul, and it seems to be in line with the museum’s ethos of incorporating technology into daily life. "Our goal is formed around the idea of humanizing technology and that technology is fully integrated with human's cultural life to open a new space for creative practices,” according to the museum’s website.

There’s still no word on whether Drinky will be available for sale. But if it does hit shelves, you could have the perfect gift for the person in your life who drinks alone. Either that, or you could suggest they check out a support group.
