UMR isn’t a health insurance company. Instead, it is a third-party administrator that coordinates with health insurance policies to provide benefits for subscribers. It doesn’t provide coverage itself, but it can help its clients, which are insurance companies, select the best benefits for their own customers. This includes helping insurance companies find high quality drug rehab coverage and facilities for their customers. UMR will also negotiate drug rehab coverage between insurance companies and their customers.
There are more than 3,000 health insurance companies that work with UMR. UMR encourages the companies it works with to provide drug rehab coverage, as it recognizes the importance of such coverage for those who need it. It is UMR’s goal for its customer companies to provide quality drug rehab coverage for as many of their own customers as possible at as many UMR drug rehab treatment center facilities around the country as can be managed.
The companies with which UMR works do not have to provide coverage for any particular set length of time. However, UMR enforces the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act with its client companies. This act expands the mental health and rehab services insurance companies are required to make available to their customers.
This Act also includes coverage for specialty drug rehabilitation treatment centers if a customer of a health insurance company wants it, though the co-pays are allowed to be higher for such care. These are high quality treatment facilities that offer alternative and complimentary treatments in addition to traditional treatments. Celebrities and the very wealthy often stay at these places, and regular people can, too, if they are willing to pay the extra deductibles and co-pays. There are specialty UMR drug rehab treatment center facilities across the country.
Both inpatient and outpatient treatment is available to customers of UMR’s client companies, depending on their individual needs and doctor recommendations. Inpatient care is usually preferred for drug rehab, and it may be easier to find a UMR drug rehab treatment center for inpatient care facility that offers coverage through UMR’s client companies than an outpatient care facility. However, if outpatient care is appropriate for an individual patient, it will be able to be found with some searching and consultation between UMR and that person’s health insurance company. The goal of UMR is to make sure each person gets the drug rehab coverage that suits them best from their insurance company.
