Great West Insurance Rehab and Alcohol Detox Coverage

Alcohol abuse is a common disorder affecting many people in this country. In fact, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 16.6 million adults in the United States were suffering from alcohol use disorders in 2013. Because alcohol abuse contributes to health concerns, traffic accidents and a number of other serious complications, getting treatment for this disorder is essential.

Unfortunately, the cost of alcohol addiction treatment can be high, especially if you require inpatient treatment services. However, if you have coverage from Great West Insurance, you may not be responsible for all of your treatment expenses.

Great West Healthcare and Cigna

In 2008, CIGNA absorbed Great West Healthcare. However, although the two companies have joined together, a separate network is still maintained for customers of Great West Insurance. This network is known as “GWH-CIGNA” and includes its own preferred providers, claim submission requirements and precertification procedures.

What Will I Pay?

Great West Insurance Alcohol Rehab Coverage is included in all policies. However, the amount you can expect to pay for treatment will vary considerably based on the specifics of your plan. Some of the variables that may affect your responsibility for treatment expenses are detailed below.

  • Terms of Policy – Great West Insurance policy terms include the deductible, copay requirements and coinsurance. Your deductible is the amount you must pay before Great West Insurance will begin covering your expenses. Likewise, some services you receive may have a copay, which is a flat amount you must pay at the time of services. Finally, after you meet your deductible, you may be required to pay coinsurance, which is a set percentage of the cost of services you receive.
  • Choice of Provider – GWH-CIGNA has its own network of preferred providers. Choosing a provider from within this network will increase the amount of Great West Insurance Alcohol Rehab Coverage you receive, while choosing a provider outside of this network will decrease your Great West Insurance Alcohol Rehab Coverage.
  • Medical Necessity/Preauthorization– In order to receive coverage for certain services, they must first be deemed medically necessary. For example, Great West Insurance won’t cover inpatient detoxification unless you meet certain requirements, including a face-to-face evaluation with the doctor. Likewise, some services may need to be preauthorized by the insurance company in order to ensure maximum coverage.

Great West Insurance policies vary. If you have specific questions about your policy, contact the company directly for clarification.
