There was no trumpeted sound

By CMcDuffie 04/17/18

There was no trumpeted sound

There was no trumpeted sound
No parade of honors came
That met my ego’s death
The day that freedom rang

‘Twas dark, then bright
A thunderous clap
‘fore darkness turned to light

(You see I had thrashed when darkness came
but my cursing brought more pain)

What glorious freedom,
This death hath brought
That called me from the night

Had not God or Buddha let me be --

I never would have found
That peace was found in me
