UMR Addiction Treatment

What is UMR?

UMR stands for United Medical Resources, an organization that is a third-party administrator (TPA) of health care plans. UMR is the largest TPA in the entire United States and as such it offers a wide variety of in-network providers, including several types of health care professionals who specialize in addiction treatment as well as addiction treatment centers all over the country.

For the most part, UMR addiction recovery assistance is available to the employees of companies who self-insure their workers. In order to keep the process both fair and efficient, employers hire UMR to implement and oversee insurance-related policies and process subsequent claims. Because the UMR network includes some 3,000 providers nationwide, members have an impressive number of options regarding their addiction treatment.

Exploring Your UMR Addiction Recovery Options

If you're a member of UMR, you will have potential access to the entire breadth of UMR addiction recovery providers. An insurance expert will speak with you regarding treatment and recommend preferred providers with both your needs and financial obligations in mind. These recommendations may include any or all of the following:

  • Addiction Treatment Facilities – You'll likely have access to both inpatient and outpatient care facilities. Both options have their own sets of pros and cons that may influence your ultimate choice. Inpatient facilities tend to cost more as they include round-the-clock supervision and room and board, but you may also be able to get more financial assistance as an inpatient depending on your insurance provider.
  • Transitional Housing – For addicts who have been receiving inpatient treatment, transitioning back to the "real world" can be fraught with difficulty. Living with like-minded individuals in partially supervised housing can ease that transition, providing a safe respite from outside distractions and temptations as you slowly return to your day-to-day life.
  • Counseling and Support Groups – While some 12-step groups are non-profit and therefore free to attend, you may need UMR addiction recovery assistance in order to be admitted to the care of a psychologist or psychiatrist. UMR can help you connect with a therapist ideally suited for your needs, and they'll make sure it's the best fit for your finances, too.

If you can't obtain UMR addiction recovery coverage for your specific condition, you may still be able to receive rehabilitation assistance under the umbrella of mental health treatment. These are the kinds of decisions your patient care advocate can guide you through.
