Formula One race car driver Franck Montagny is a prodigy behind the wheel, but his career came to a screeching halt after testing positive for a “derivative of cocaine.”
Montagny, 36, has won numerous racing titles and finished on the podium for many others. He has experience in the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series, Formula One, and even IndyCar. But after a recent drug test, Montagny may never race again.
After he finished a Formula E race in Malaysia on Nov. 22, 2014, Montagny was required to take a drug test. He knew what the results would be before they came out; he also knew his racing career was likely over.
Montagny never contested the results and was suspended from the Andretti Autosport team shortly after.
“Autosport is perhaps over for me,” said Montagny. “I made a mistake. I’m guilty.”
His seat was taken by Marco Andretti, a nine-year veteran of the Verizon IndyCar Series who said he’s “up for the task.”
