The sober actor says it's "sexier to be in the moment" than to rely on booze for confidence.

Christian Slater is sober for many reasons, chiefly among them the sexiness factor. The 44-year-old actor, best known for '80s and early '90s flicks like Heathers and True Romance, is no stranger to trouble with the law after several high-profile charges including a DUI and a prison stint for assaulting his then-girlfriend. But he's gotten sober since then and says it's changed his life for the better. "The illusion of alcohol is that you think you're loose and comfortable when actually you're falling on the floor and embarrassing yourself and your friends," he tells British newspaper The Guardian. "But I feel like things work now. It makes me feel sexier. It's sexier just to show up and be in the moment than to need liquid lubrication to feel like you fit in." However, Slater admits that maintaining sobriety can still be a struggle at times. "There are definitely challenges, particularly when you're especially stubborn and you want to make something work when it doesn't work for you," he says. 2013 is gearing up to be a busy year for the sober star; he has three films that have been completed or are in post-production and he's currently filming for the drama flick Undiscovered Gyrl.
