According to a study conducted by German researchers, women are as equally prone to suffering from porn addiction as men.

Published in the scientific journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking, the study revealed that behavioral patterns in so-called hypersexual women—women who engaged in heavy pornography use and have spent excessive time engaging in sexual fantasy or planning sexual behavior—were the same as observed in men.

"The authors found cybersex addiction among heterosexual female users is similar to that of heterosexual males," said journal editor Dr. Brenda Wiederhold.

Researchers studied 102 women—half of whom identified themselves as internet porn users, the other half were identified as non-users—and assessed their level of addiction by analyzing their levels of arousal and cravings for sex after showing them 100 pornographic photos.

"Results indicated internet porn users rated pornographic pictures as more arousing and reported greater craving due to pornographic picture presentation compared with non-users," said Professor Matthias Brand of Duisburg-Essen University in Germany.

"Moreover craving, sexual arousal rating of pictures, sensitivity to sexual excitation, problematic sexual behavior and severity of psychological symptoms predicted tendencies toward cybersex addiction in internet porn users," Brand said.

The conclusions of the study were that internet porn addiction in females was similar, if not almost the same as it is with men.

According to other findings, as many as 17% of women say that they are addicted to online porn.
