Pippa Middleton Boozes on the Sly
Kate's sister sneaks liquor into tennis games and disguises her drunkenness with sunglasses.
If sneaking bottles is your forte, you're in regal company. Pippa Middleton, sister to Duchess of Cambridge Kate, confesses to secretly getting wasted while watching tennis at London's Wimbledon tournament. "I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy a Pimm’s or three when I’m watching a game," writes 29-year-old Middleton in the Spectator. "Only pints will do, frankly, since half the glass is ice anyway." But since BYOB isn't exactly encouraged at public sporting events, she does her drinking on the sly: "I try to smuggle mine under my chair and sip it when the cameras aren’t on me." As for the alcohol's intoxicating effects, she tries to keep those hidden too. "Oversized sunglasses help the disguise, and mean I can nod off unnoticed after one too many Pimm’s in the sun," she confides. Pimm's is a quintessentially British citrus-liquor that is considered Wimbledon's official tipple, and Pippa calls it "absolutely delicious, essential drinking." In fact, Prince William's sister-in-law has raved about Pimm's so often that the drink's makers, Diageo, had to deny paying her to promote their brand. “Diageo has not paid Pippa Middleton to plug Pimm’s," said a spokesman, "though we are happy she seems to like the product.”
