Peyton Manning (Not That One) Arrested On Felony Drug Charges

An 18-year-old woman with the same name as the five-time league MVP caused a stir with her arrest for possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Football fans breathed a sigh of relief after reading that Peyton Manning was arrested on felony drug charges, only to discover that it wasn’t the legendary Denver Broncos quarterback who was involved.

An 18-year-old woman with the same name was arrested in Nashville, Tenn. with fellow 18-year-old Kenneth Sowards. Police pulled the duo over and found two mason jars inside their vehicle containing 44 grams of pot, along with a digital scale and pill crusher. Cops also found bags of cocaine dissolving in a cup of Coca-Cola, while text messages on both their phones made direct references to cocaine use and drug dealing.

Both are being held in jail in lieu of $20,000 bond and face charges of possession of cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, while Soward also has an additional charge for tampering with evidence.

But while the squeaky-clean quarterback isn’t a likely candidate for a drug bust, drug use is hardly uncommon in the NFL. Out of the 48 arrests among NFL players since March 2013, 27 of them have been related to drugs or alcohol. So far in 2014, Minnesota Vikings linebacker was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving for the second time. His January arrest took place in Chanassen, Minn., after he slammed his car into trees in a parking lot. He was given four charges including DWI, possession of marijuana and a second-degree charge for refusing a sobriety test at the scene, before being released on $12,000 bail.
