Michael Barrymore Set to Talk Drugs and Addiction
The disgraced British TV personality will also delve into the murky details surrounding the death of Stuart Lubbock in his swimming pool.
Next month, former British TV star and presenter Michael Barrymore will discuss his fall from grace on an episode of celebrity chat show, The Jeremy Kyle Show.
Barrymore, 62, is planning to talk about his struggles with drugs and addiction, as well as the death of 31-year-old party guest, Stuart Lubbock, who was found dead in Barrymore’s swimming pool in March 2001. Though his death was ruled a drowning, Lubbock was found with severe anal injuries that led to speculation that he had been sexually assaulted.
Barrymore’s career came to a grinding halt following the events that he later described as “just a party that went disastrously wrong, with a tragic ending.” According to witnesses, Barrymore was seen rubbing cocaine on Lubbock’s gums earlier in the evening and was later cited by police for possession of marijuana. He was arrested twice on suspicion of murder and sexual assault, though both times the charges were dropped. But by then the damage to his career had been done.
“I do find it difficult to talk about,” Barrymore said in a 2013 interview with Radio 5 Live. “Not because I’m guilty of anything but because I didn’t do anything. I did a stupid thing - I walked away from the scene, but I’d already gone and got help to bring him out. Nothing happened to the guy there.”
