Some powerful voices of addiction writing will gather on Wednesday, February 29, for a panel discussion on addiction, recovery and writing about it that promises to be fresh and compelling. Hosted by journalism professor and author Sue Shapiro (Lighting Up) at NYU's Bookstore (between Waverly and Washington Place) from 6:30-8:30 pm, the event will feature The Fix's Editor-in-Chief Maer Roshan (Courtney Comes Clean), as well as bestselling author Koren Zailckas (Wasted), New York Times reporter Dave Itzkoff (Cocaine's Son), substance abuse specialist Frederick Woolverton (Unhooked) and others. Panelists will draw from their own personal stories, share advice and hope for those struggling with addiction and their friends and families, and address compulsions including food, sex, alcohol, gambling and smoking. The event is free and all are welcome.
